About this course
Designed by data protection expert, Damian Hamill, this online training is designed to explain the interaction between the GDPR and the Privacy & Electronic Communications Regulations, and how they related to electronic marketing.
Designed for those who use telephone, email or fax for marketing purposes, this course will explain how you can comply with the legislation when carrying out such activities, and market in a lawful manner.
Under the legislation, marketing is defined not only as promoting goods and services, but also the promotion of aims and ideals. This means that anyone using email, telephone or fax to send messaging to individuals about charitable, political, or any other form of ideological aim or objective, has to comply with the electronic marketing laws. This course shows you how.
Contents include...
Although the overarching Principles of the GDPR are quite straightforward, the practical application of those Principles in the real world is more complex and can leave many sole traders and small business owners confused, worried and bewildered.
This course can give you the peace of mind that comes from knowing you comply with the legislation and can respond confidently to questions from your Data Subjects or official bodies!
It explains data protection 'jargon' clearly, allowing you to understand the 'language of the GDPR'. It explores the underlying rationale and purpose of the Principles of data protection and links them to clear and practical steps that embed those Principles in the real world. It helps you understand what you must do under the legislation, what you can do as good practice, and what you are not allowed to do. Throughout the course, the reasoning behind the legislation is explained and illustrated with relevant real life examples.
Who is this course suitable for?
This course is ideal for individuals, businesses or organisations that uses personal information for electronic marketing. This includes not merely marketing for commerical purposes (such as selling products) by profit-driven businesses, but also covers the promotions of aims or ideals by organisations such as charities, political organisations or lobby groips.
The GDPR can be complicated enough but electronic marketing - using email, telephone or fax (if anyone still uses fax) - also requires compliance with the additional requirements of the Privacy & Electronic Communication Regulations (PECR).
Despite this, electronic marketing can be enormously important to many businesses and organisations, so understanding and complying with the legislation is essential to keep such marketing happening whilst staying on the right side of the law. Damian has spent years helping thousands of individuals and orgaisations understand how to engage in electronic marketing in a lawful manner. He can help you too.
This course is suitable for:

Please note- the GDPR applies to the UK and all the remaining member states of the European Union. Each country that is subject to the GDPR has its own accompanying national legislation that regulates areas where the GDPR allows for national discretion. In the UK, this is the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA2018).
This course covers the GDPR and the additional provisions of the DPA2018. Consequently, it is most relevant to those based in the UK or offering goods and services to customers within the UK, even if you are not yourself based in the UK. If you are based in another country subject to the GDPR, this course will not cover aspects of your own equivalent national legislation to the DPA2018.
